David Regela:
A top U.S. customs special agent, David Regela met Acosta through Mimi
Webb Miller. Learning from Pablo Acosta that the Drug lord regretted
forming business connections with the Colombians, Regela attempted to develop
Acosta as an informant. During numerous secret meetings in Mexico,
Acosta told the American agent of his desire to undermine the Colombians
by providing information to the American government, and even talked of
giving up to the American authorities. But the plans evaporated when
Acosta made embarrassing revelations to an American journalist of Mexican
government complicity, forcing the drug lord to flee from pursuing Mexico
federal police.
